Network of Water Rights Initiative (NEWARI) Announces New Executive Team

Enugu, Nigeria – March 22, 2025 – The Network of Water Rights Initiative (NEWARI) is pleased to announce the appointment of a new executive team, effective immediately. This leadership transition comes as a result of the appointment of the former NEWARI Coordinator, Mrs. Amaka Nweke, to the Local Government Service Commission by the Enugu State Government.

Following a general meeting held on March 4, 2025, the Network elected new executive members to oversee its operations and strategic direction. The newly appointed leadership team includes:

  • Ikenna Ugwu – Acting Coordinator
    Ikenna is a development sector expert with extensive experience in water rights advocacy, sanitation, and sustainable development. He has played a key role in policy advocacy, community engagement, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving access to clean water and sanitation across Nigeria.
  • Amara Okorie – Assistant Coordinator
    Amara, a microbiologist and seasoned program manager, brings expertise in community development, advocacy, and partnership-building. She will support the Acting Coordinator in advancing NEWARI’s mission and strengthening collaborations.
  • Kingsley C. Urama – Communications Director
    A microbiologist, medical student, and skilled communicator, Kingsley has extensive experience in media relations, public awareness campaigns, and stakeholder engagement. He will lead the Network’s communications strategy to amplify its impact.

Speaking on the new appointments, Temple Oraeki, Chairman of NEWARI’s Board of Directors, stated:
“We are thrilled to welcome Ikenna, Amara, and Kingsley to the NEWARI leadership team. Their expertise and passion for water justice will be instrumental in driving our mission forward and promoting equitable access to clean water and sanitation for all in Nigeria.”

The new executive team is dedicated to strengthening water rights advocacy, expanding community programs, and influencing policies to ensure that every individual, particularly those in marginalized communities in Nigeria, have access to clean water and sanitation.
